Important Information for Spring Competitive Soccer

Please read the following message:

Welcome Competitive Families,

As we approach the spring competitive soccer season for 2025, the league would like to send a few thoughts and reminders to our soccer families.

Practices begin the week of April 21st and will be located at Algonquin Middle School. You will be hearing from your coaches regarding specific days/times of your practices. The league and coaching staff will communicate via PlayMetrics, so please activate this app to your smartphone ASAP if you haven’t already.

In addition to regularly scheduled practices, the league will be offering technical skills training and a focused skill session for our goalkeepers on Friday evenings starting April 25th and going through June 20th, with no session on Friday May 23rd. These are included in the league’s spring fee. These training sessions will be coordinated by Juan Garzon who is the league’s Director of Coaching. Goalkeeping sessions will be run by Dan Joyce who is Averill Park’s boys’ soccer goalie coach. Registration is strongly recommended and will be open soon. To register for these, please go to your player’s PlayMetrics page/app and click on “Programs” to register for these sessions.

We ask that parents refrain from requesting that their child play a certain position on the soccer field as we trust that our coaches will have the player’s best interest in mind when managing this. Additionally, playing time for the U8/U10/U12 levels will be kept equal but as players advance, playing time will be managed by our coaches as this allows our teams to be the most competitive.

If there are any questions or concerns throughout the season that your coach is unable to resolve or answer, we ask that you email apyslcompetitive@gmail.com and one of our competitive coordinators will assist you. The league’s goal for you and your soccer player is to have the best experience possible during your time with our club.

Lastly, there are a new set of zero tolerance referee rules that come from the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL). These are significant and an update will be sent out next week regarding expectations from our league, coaches, players and parents/spectators. THIS UPDATE IS A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE.

Important dates to remember for the spring season:

The evening of Monday, May 19th is our spring picture day which will be located at Algonquin Middle School. Designated picture times for teams will be announced later.

Our end of the year competitive league picnic will be held on Wednesday, June 25th.

Tryouts for the upcoming 2025-2026 season will be;

·      Boy’s tryouts – 6/23, 6/25 & 6/30

·      Girl’s tryouts – 6/24, 6/26 & 7/1

Players are required to attend 2 out of the 3 tryouts. Details of these tryouts will be announced later.

We hope that everyone has another awesome season of soccer. Go APYSL!

Warmest regards,

APYSL Competitive Coordinators
